Foodie Challenge: Bone Broth
All of that makes it a soothing and warming drink that many experts believe can help with gut health, joint issues, inflammation, sleep – all while giving you thicker hair, and clearer skin.
This week, I’m challenging you to drink ONE cup of bone broth every day! 🥣
You can make it yourself or you can buy premade broth at many grocery stores, natural food stores and online.
Look for organic, grass-fed bone broth if you opt to buy it yourself. Be sure to check sodium levels because some contain a LOT.
Here’s an easy recipe to get you started if you want to make it yourself:
In a large pot or slow cooker, add 1 gallon of water, 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar (this helps the bones release their nutrients), 2 to 4 pounds of animal bones (use leftovers or get some from the butcher or grocery store), and salt and pepper to taste. Heat to boiling, reduce heat and allow to slowly simmer 12 to 24 hours (the longer, the better!). Allow to cool and then strain it into a container, discarding the solids.
You can use a variety of bones, and add any veggies and herbs you’d like to flavor it as you cook: celery, onions, carrots and thyme are popular choices.
