The most frustrating part of joining a gym

You must be frustrated by this too! I don’t know anyone who has belonged to a “big box” gym who hasn’t experienced this.

So you got to a tipping point with your weight, you joined a gym with hopes you would lose weight. Unsure of how to use the equipment,  you ask the employees to show you a few things. To your surprise, they couldn’t be bothered by your question and need for help. Which is no surprise because most gym staff have ZERO fitness background. Or the other option your met with is to sign up for an appointment with one of the personal trainers, whose schedule is so booked, you have to wait 3 weeks.

Group exercise classes that are jammed packed full of bodies, with very little space to do your work and too many participants per coach!

 Overtime we get used to the way we do things. You go about your morning routine and never even notice that you've stopped looking in the mirror.

​It’s a good thing we DON’T have control over many of the things that go on in our bodies. 
 
We get so busy, that we probably would have died a long time ago because we would absolutely have gotten distracted and have forgotten to BREATHE! 
 
However- although breathing happens automatically for us, our minds are often focused on other things….so that even though we’re alive and “breathing”- we’re still not doing it right.

Why do my knees hurt?

If you’re enjoying those miles and plan on continuing after this year is over, I strongly suggest you check the bottom of your sneakers to make sure they are in good shape!

Shoes start to lose their ability to absorb shock after about 300 miles (according to the NSCA).  They recommend changing your shoes at least every 6 months or 300 miles (whichever comes first).

, if you haven’t replaced your sneakers in awhile, you may be due!

Free Tip Friday on being "Present"

​When you’re not present in a situation, it’s kind of like being and out-of-focus camera lens.  You see things, but not clearly. Take a moment, regroup, and adjust your focus and pay attention to whom you’re with and where you are.  Look up, look around, adjust the lighting and smile for the camera.  For the rest of the day today, bring awareness to your “presence” and make sure you’re 100% there with your entire mind!
