Stories like those break my heart. I can remember before I received my Exercise Science degree, belonging to a “big box” gym. A friend of mine shared his football weight training program with me. I tried to follow it the best I could, but my form was TERRIBLE. Basically I was doing more harm than good.
When I asked one of the employees, he couldn’t be bothered by my question. He only cared about the clients that would actually pay him for personal training. I can’t hate on his game, most gyms don’t compensate their staff very well. Which exactly the reason DIY gyms (big box gyms) have such a high churn rate.
From my experience early in my fitness journey, I dedicated my time spent in the gym to help everyone who asked me. Moving forward, when I opened Beyond Fit, I vowed to create a facility that not only helps you learn how to exercise but is also a safe haven for anyone who may feel too intimidated to go to a larger gym.
